Vulgare Wild-Type Isopods

This wild-type isopod may be known as the common pill bug, but we think they’re anything but! Armadillidium vulgare is a beautiful creature that can reach up to 3/4 inches in length. Their dark colors, sometimes with golden flecks, provide a striking contrast with their usually brown surroundings. We love them in a Microvarium because they are often out and about, exploring their environment. Armadillidium vulgare is also great for kids to handle. They’re not very fast, so kids can let them crawl across their hands while observing them. They will roll up into a ball when they feel threatened but will quickly unroll and get moving again.
